Member Spotlight: Fayette Electric Cooperative

For more than 88 years, Fayette Electric Cooperative has been proud to power the homes, farms, businesses, and communities that make our region such a special place to call home. Founded on May 12, 1937, when local farmers formed the Fayette County Committee on Rural Electrification, FEC received a $100,000 federal loan to build 100 miles of line — and by October 1938, electricity was flowing to rural homes for the first time. Today, FEC serves over 10,770 members across seven counties (Fayette, Bastrop, Lee, Washington, Austin, Colorado, and Lavaca) and maintains more than 3,057 miles of line.

As a member-owned, non-profit cooperative, FEC exists to serve its members — not shareholders. Excess revenue is returned to members as capital credits, and success is measured by member satisfaction rather than profit. That focus shows: in 2026, FEC earned an ACSI score of 91, driven by strong community engagement, digital tools like SmartHub, and consistent, empathetic member service.

FEC believes in being a good neighbor. Through its partnership with CoBank’s Sharing Success program, the cooperative awarded $30,000 in local grants in 2026 alone, and it sponsors youth programs like the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, scholarships, and community events such as Shred Day.

In 2024, FEC moved into a new 38,800-square-foot headquarters in La Grange, featuring a 24/7 operations center, a drive-thru window for member convenience, and expanded space for future growth. The cooperative’s 47 employees bring a culture rooted in service, safety, and community — and being part of the La Grange Area Chamber has only strengthened those local connections, giving FEC more ways to engage with area businesses and residents.
