Building new homes and giving older ones a second life in La Grange
Some La Grange families already live in a Silverado home and may not know it. Silverado Signature Homes joined the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce as a Prime member this summer. By then, owner Matt Harper had built two new homes in town and restored two more.
Matt is an Austin native. He got into home building sideways. He started as a real estate investor and land developer, planning to buy property and let other builders put homes on it. He soon found that he could make the best use of a piece of land if he ran the construction himself. Nearly a decade later, Silverado Signature Homes builds custom homes across Central Texas, from Horseshoe Bay and Burnet to Georgetown and Round Rock. The company is based in Bertram and belongs to at least six chambers of commerce across the region.
Fayette County is different for Matt. His wife’s family has deep roots in the Winchester area, and this is where the Harpers plan to call home. That gives Silverado an unusual combination for this area: the resources and experience of a big-city builder, run by someone with a personal stake in the community.
“This is where we live. We want to be able to run into our customers at H-E-B and be friends. That’s way more important to us than the bottom line.”
— Matt Harper, Silverado Signature Homes

New homes and restored older homes
Silverado built its first new home in La Grange
at 845 E. Milam, followed by a new home at 271 S. College, next to the police station.
Matt also restores older homes, and this may be the work La Grange notices most. At 508 E. Milam, a 1950 cottage, and 293 S. College, built in 1954, Silverado took the houses down to the studs. They brought the wiring, plumbing and finishes up to modern standards while keeping the character of the original homes. The company has also built additions for local homeowners who want more space without leaving a house they love.
What’s next
Matt is building new custom homes, restoring older homes, and looking for build sites around La Grange. If you own land and have thought about building, or you have an older home that deserves a second life, Matt would like to hear from you.
Every Silverado project starts with a clear budget and a walk of the homesite, so the home is designed for the property and the plan matches reality from the first day. The team manages everything from foundation to final walkthrough.
If you’re thinking about building or remodeling, you owe it to yourself to at least call Matt.
